Who We Are: Our Background


Charlene Erwin and Alison Bricken, co-owners of the studio, hold the Gold Certification from the internationally recognized Pilates Method Alliance. This is the highest professional and educational standard currently available for Pilates instructors. In addition, both also are certified by the Physicalmind Institute of New York City to teach equipment and matwork. Alison and Charlene each have many years of experience teaching all aspects of fitness in Fairfield County. In addition to their Pilates certifications both have completed extensive coursework in post-rehabilitation training using the Pilates Method. They also are certified Yamuna Body Rolling practitioners, certified Yamuna Foot Fitness pracitioners, certified Yamuna Face Ball practitioners, and hold credentials in flexibility and strength training by Wharton Performance Institute in New York City, are certified Resist-A-Ball Physioball Trainers, and are certified in Group Exercise using the TRX Suspension System.  They continue to pursue continuing education in all aspects of exercise and fitness training and utilize the most current research and methodology in working with their clients.

While we all have the same 24 hours in a day to work with, sometimes it's not easy to fit everything in - I'm a single mom with my own business, an avid volunteer, and an adjunct professor at NYU - I seem to get more done when I consistently create space to focus on my Pilates practice. I leave the studio more fit- both physically and mentally. It's been a regular and integral part of my life for almost seven years, including through my pregnancy, and I credit my core work with Charlene and resulting tone and increased body awareness for a very pleasant and easy natural birth. Sometimes just an hour a week, sometimes more, Pilates helps me to be the best mom, friend, coach, teacher and person I can be.
